Before Jason Kelce broke the news to his teammates that he was retiring from sports, Donna Kelce took some time to think on the qualities that made her son such a remarkable center for the Philadelphia Eagles.

It was not his status as a potential future Hall of Famer that she focused on; rather, it was the heart that he brought to the game, as well as the amount of love that his team’s city has for him.

“It’s exciting to see how Philadelphia has embraced him,” Donna Kelce, the mother of brothers Jason and Travis Kelce, said in an interview with TODAY.com prior to Jason’s announcement that he would be retiring. “Jason is a special individual, where, you know, somebody telling him he can’t do it is a fire that drives him.”

It was verified by the National Football League that Jason Kelce informed his teammates that he has made the decision to retire following the Philadelphia Eagles’ season-ending playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 32-9 on January 15.

There is still a chance that Travis Kelce, the younger brother, who plays tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and is in a relationship with Taylor Swift, will win the Super Bowl.

“I just am really, really thrilled that both cities really feel very attached to both Jason and Travis,” Donna Kelce says, reminiscing on the careers of her sons when they were in the National Football League. “They are human beings that are so much larger than life that they attract really wonderful people all around those that are around them. It’s like a lot of fun.”

A woman who goes by the name “Mama Kelce” gave an extensive interview to TODAY.com in which she discussed her experiences as a mother to two professional players who were “a handful” when they were adolescents.

To quote her, “That was it,” she tells TODAY.com. “Once they got to a certain size, I couldn’t do anything. “The brothers have “always been close,” according to her.

“If somebody said something bad about their brother, they would be the first to defend them,” according to her. Nevertheless, they experienced a sense of “sibling rivalry” as they were growing up.

“There just is, you’re constantly fighting in the pecking order, and that’s just the way families are,” according to her. “I believe that a great number of people make an effort to prevent that. However, there are aspects of it that are somewhat beneficial since they teach you how to relate to other people.

By the time they were in high school, they had ceased physically fighting with each other.

“Once they were the same height and the same weight, it was done, because it was equal, and they were going to hurt each other,” according to her. “There’s always one fight, and it’s the last one.”

In the opening game of the playoffs, which took place on January 13, the Chiefs were victorious over the Miami Dolphins by a score of 26-7. The Eagles were eliminated from the playoffs the following day for the second time. At both of the games, Donna Kelce was present.

As part of the festivities surrounding the postseason of football, Donna Kelce has collaborated with Heluva Good! dips to create a big game countdown calendar that features seven days of recipes, one of which is one of her own creations. According to her, the food is the most important factor in determining the success of a tailgate.

One of the ways in which the renowned NFL mom has directly communicated with fans is through their participation in partnerships such as this one.

“Everybody that’s come up to me has been very gracious, very supportive, and they tell me that they love my boys,” according to her. “What mom doesn’t want to hear that?” When they were three years old, her sons began participating in sports for the first time, beginning with soccer matches. By this stage, she has stated that she does not experience any anxiety prior to their games.

 

It’s been like this for a long time. Simply put, this is a normal part of their life. I take pleasure in it. She says, “I try to have fun.” The truth is that there is no ritual. I’m not one to believe in superstitions.

On game day, she does have one ritual that she always follows. “I like to let them know that I’ll be watching and wish them good luck,” according to her.

Even when she thought back to their first playoff games, which Jason played in 2013 and Travis played in 2016, she recalled finding herself feeling even more “surprised.”” When they were growing up, they were on teams in high school that weren’t really winning teams, so it was very exciting,” according to her.

Her son Travis’s relationship with Taylor Swift was the culmination of the year 2023, which she has referred to as a “great ride.” The year began with their Super Bowl runs and finished with their romance.
