Parker Valby Breaks Collegiate 10,000 Meter Record.

Parker Valby, a senior at the University of Florida who has won four NCAA titles and holds the collegiate 5,000-meter record

set the 10,000-meter collegiate record on April 11 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, in 30:50.43.

Valby's performance is over 28 seconds faster than the previous collegiate record (31:18.07), established by Iowa State's Lisa Koll in 2010.

Valby was making her distance debut, and her time ranks her as the 11th fastest American in history.

Calli Thackery of Great Britain, a 2:22 marathoner, set the pace for Valby, leading her through the first half of the race in 15:30.

But once Thackery left the track, Valby was alone for the final 12 and a half laps of the race, which she completed in 15:20.

She lapped the whole field and finished more than two minutes ahead of BYU's Jenna Hutchins, who ran 32:52.

Valby runs significantly less miles than other elite runners
