‘Oppenheimer’ Premieres in Japan During Knighthood Announcement

Christopher Nolan, who won the Best Director Oscar for “Oppenheimer,” will be knighted, while his wife, producer Emma Thomas, will be damehooded.

The UK government cited their film industry contributions for the honors.

“Their services to film are recognized,” said the UK government.

Nolan's latest film, about the father of the atomic bomb, won seven honors in 2024, including Best Film.

Before “Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan had five Oscar nominations without a win, making this year's win remarkable.

The knighthoods and damehoods usually occur during the new year and on King Charles III's birthday, November 14th. Their unexpected awards deviated from this schedule.

However, outstanding performances, notably in sports and the arts, might generate off-cycle accolades, which Nolan certainly meets with its Oppenheimer success.

The UK monarch usually leads the investiture at Buckingham Palace.
