This is his second such suspension in less than a year.

After missing eight games the previous season due to a similar offense, Morant served an NBA suspension for the first 25 games of the current season for showing a gun on social media.

"Following ongoing soreness and instability, Morant underwent an MRI that revealed an underlying labral tear," the team stated.

Without their best player, the Grizzlies are 7-20 this season and 4.5 games out of the Western Conference's final play-in berth.

Without Morant, the Grizzlies' chances of making it back to the NBA Playoffs are significantly diminished.

Coach Taylor Jenkins of the Grizzlies stated that Morant was experiencing pain, even going so far as to indicate that he might make a decision during the game against the Suns.

Morant has a five-year, $197 million contract that is now in its first season.

This season, he is making over $34 million, but he forfeited roughly $7.6 million due to the 25-game suspension.

In June, Morant's 25-game, non-paying suspension was revealed.
