Donald Trump's latest legal move could backfire: George Conway

The probable GOP presidential nominee was ordered to pay $83.3 million to Carroll, a former Elle journalist

in January for harming her character after she accused him of 1990s sexual assault.

Last year, a civil jury awarded Carroll $5 million from Trump for sexual abuse and defamation.

Trump denies guilt and vows to appeal.Last Monday, Stephanopoulos

and South Carolina Republican Representative Nancy Mace discussed Carroll's civil defamation trial on ABC News.

When Stephanopoulos asked Mace, a rape survivor, about her backing of Trump for president given the case against him, the encounter grew confrontational.

"You back Trump for president. Jury finds Trump guilty of rape.

Defamation of the rape victim was found by a jury against Donald Trump. A judge upheld it "Stephanopoulos told Mace.

The jury's verdict did not mean Carroll "failed to prove that Mr. Trump 'raped' her

as many people commonly understand the word 'rape.'" because of New York's restricted definition of "rape," added Judge Lewis Kaplan.
