The DCU’s New Batman Could Break A 35-Year Movie Trend.

Based on the trailer, it appears that Batman: The Brave and the Bold has the potential to break a Batman movie trend that has been prevalent for the past 35 years. Within the framework of James Gunn’s reimagining of the DC Universe, The Brave and the Bold will serve as the first Batman film. Despite the fact that very few specifics have been disclosed regarding The Brave and the Bold, or even the future of the DC Universe, the film is well positioned to challenge a Batman movie stereotype that has been present in every film that has been released since the release of Batman in 1989.

Over the course of the DC Universe, Batman has left behind an outstanding cinematic heritage, with a multitude of acclaimed performances and films. Although a number of these have explored different interpretations of a darker and more adult Batman, they have all relied on the same narrative aspect. This is despite the fact that many of these have had diverse tones. The Brave and the Bold is ready to break the precedent that Batman has set in the film industry, or even evolve it into new territory, despite the fact that storyline specifics are thin on the ground.

Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, has been represented with romantic interests throughout the entirety of the history of live-action Batman films. This has added layers to his complex persona that go beyond the cape and cowl aspect of his character. Wayne was given a more human quality as a result of these personal entanglements, which also enhanced his emotional challenges and goals as Gotham’s guardian.

There were a number of Batman movies released in the 1990s that featured a love interest that posed a challenge to Bruce Wayne’s sense of identity and duality. In their respective stories, Vicki Vale, Chase Meridian, and Catwoman all investigated their romantic connections with Bruce Wayne and Batman. On the other hand, Julie Maddison appeared in Batman and Robin for a very limited period of time and appeared to be unaware of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.

The character of Rachel Dawes, on the other hand, was primarily Bruce Wayne’s long-term romantic interest during the entirety of the Dark Knight trilogy. The fact that Rachel was aware of Bruce’s identity as Batman served to illustrate the love and commitment that Bruce had for Rachel. During this time, his brief affair with Talia al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises aimed to illustrate that Bruce Wayne’s personal interests pose a risk to Batman’s capacity to do his duties in an efficient manner.

The ensuing romance that Batman has with Selina serves to strengthen Bruce’s commitment to Batman’s objectives rather than being a distraction. Additionally, later cinematic romantic interests have been established through Batman’s hero identity. For example, Ben Affleck’s Batman has hinted at a potential romance with Wonder Woman, and Batman has established a Selina Kyle romance that is completely distinct from Batman’s Bruce Wayne identity. This suggests that Batman is Bruce Wayne’s more dominant persona.
