‘John Wick’ Franchise Exceeds $1 Billion Globally

The John Wick film series has not yet been around for ten years, and it has already attained the status of a billion-dollar franchise.

According to the statistics provided by Box Office Mojo, the franchise has earned more than $1 billion around the world. This is largely attributable to the success of John Wick: Chapter 4, which became the highest-grossing film in the series last month.

It also became the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2023, while bringing in more than $425.8 million at the global box office. The successful debut of the most recent installment helped the franchise cross the one billion dollar mark, bringing in $1,011,400,000 during its run.

To put these figures into perspective, the first John Wick film grossed over $86 million in 2014; John Wick: Chapter 2 smashed the record with $171.5 million; and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum went even higher and hauled in $327.7 million at the worldwide box office.

John Wick: Chapter 4 was released on March 23 in all global regions with the exception of Japan. A release in Japan is still anticipated for this fall and is likely to push the film’s lifetime gross a little further than it is now.

Lionsgate chair Joe Drake told Deadline in a statement that “this milestone is a testament to the incredible work of Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves, alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee,” who have made it their mission to outdo themselves with each consecutive picture in this franchise.

“This milestone is a testament to the incredible work of Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves,” he said. “We could not be more thankful to moviegoers all over the world for their role in bringing us to this incredible accomplishment.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 was directed by David Leitch. Lionsgate has entertained the idea of making John Wick 5, but according to reports, Stahelski and Reeves have reached an agreement to bring the series to a close with John Wick: Chapter 4.
