Sanders and Edmonds, both 56, met at a premiere party for a film Edmonds produced in 2012. Despite the fact that they only spoke briefly during their first meeting, Sanders was so taken with the producer that he asked a friend to get her business card that night.A few months later, the football coach contacted Edmonds to arrange a meeting to discuss his vision for a reality series. “I started off thinking I was just going to produce [Deion’s Family Playbook],” he said. “But as I started working with Deion on the show, we grew quite fond of each other and ended up dating.”Throughout their relationship, the couple dealt with being separated. Sanders, who has been married twice before, told PEOPLE that he and Edmonds are “at the age and stage where I don’t think neither of us needs a lot.”

Both of his daughters were talented basketball players, and all three of his sons were football players, with Sanders coaching Shilo and Shedeur at Jackson State — and now Colorado University.”Whenever we step on the grass, practice, game, it doesn’t even matter, he’s a whole different man and I’m a whole different person, too,” Shedeur spoke to PEOPLE about how he balances his father-son and player-coach relationships with Sanders. “After the game, whenever we walk off the field outside of the white lines, it’s dad and that.” But once we’re on the field, it’s all coach.”
