Biden’s failed China policy is based on a disastrous idea.

Biden's worst idea yet: Do we really want a new Cold War with China? | Salon.com

President Joe Biden’s disastrous foreign policy decisions continue to undermine our national and global security nearly three years into his presidency. We witnessed the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, which resulted in the tragic deaths of thirteen service members. Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, igniting Europe’s largest conflict since World War II. This year, our ally Israel has been subjected to an unspeakable terrorist attack and is fighting for its very survival.

Furthermore, China’s aggression in the South Pacific and towards Taiwan has increased. This is the kind of chaos that weak leadership breeds. Around the world, Americans are less safe as a result of Biden’s weak-kneed approach.

There appears to be no desire for course correction when dealing with our most significant near-peer rival. Despite the administration’s occasional stern rhetoric, the Biden administration’s actions towards China are nothing short of appeasement. John Kerry, Biden’s “climate envoy,” just finished a weekend summit in the Coachella Valley with his Chinese Communist Party (CCP) counterpart to hold private conversations about how the US and China can work together to combat climate change.

In other words, the Biden administration will continue to pursue harmful energy regulations that reduce fossil fuel production and raise prices for everyday Americans, while China approves two new coal plants on average every week. The problem with making agreements with China is that only one side actually follows through on them, to the detriment of ordinary Americans who face increased regulation and taxation.

There was no discussion of “politics,” as Mr. Kerry has repeatedly stated. There was no mention of China evading US sanctions in order to purchase record amounts of Iranian oil and destabilise the Middle East.

There was no mention of China’s repression and human rights violations against millions of Uyghurs, rampant intellectual property theft, complicity in the fentanyl epidemic that kills tens of thousands of Americans each year, threats against democratic Taiwan, or economic coercion via its Belt and Road Initiative.

The Biden administration has repeatedly demonstrated its willingness to turn a blind eye for short-term policy concessions at the expense of the American people. History has shown that an appeasement diplomatic strategy is doomed to fail and poses a serious threat to our economic and national security.

Make no mistake: the CCP has global ambitions and will use any means necessary to destabilise the United States as the sole world superpower. There was once hope that opening our economy to China would liberalise their society and lead to a more open and free country.

Unfortunately, this has not occurred. In fact, the CCP has tightened its grip on its people while benefiting from the West’s economic freedom. It is now critical that we take proactive steps to protect American investments and citizens by economically detaching ourselves from China.

The US must be steadfast in defending its interests and values. We must approach China and the international community with strength, firmly defending our principles and security.

This necessitates an all-of-the-above strategy that includes improving our cybersecurity, addressing trade imbalances, promoting human rights, and encouraging domestic energy production. We can contribute to a more stable and secure world while also ensuring the safety and prosperity of our country and the entire global community.
